Many people are scared to reject of visa interview which is a human tendency. And the most important thing once you rejected in your first attempt of visa interview then you will get a second chance after 6 months.

And in your second chance they is very less chance to get your visa because the interviewer have your profile and he/she know about you very well. They know the reason why you were rejected in your first attempt of Visa Interview.

So today I will explain to you what you need to do and what you don’t need to do while your C1D Visa interview.

Before I proceed for all these questions and answers I would like to introduce my self and why would you trust me.

So I am a Seafarers and working since 2015 in a crew ship and I have attempt twice C1D Visa Interview and I clear it both time. I have seen many people to a rejection of visa just because of minor mistakes.

And they are very demoted because of rejection this is why I would like to guide you for your C1D visa Interview.

I really want you to mug up all these C1D Visa Interview questions and answers, And go with full confidence for your interview.

One suggestion for all the Visa Interviewers that never go for your visa interviews if you are overconfident that you will clear it easily.

1. What is your name ?

Ans. The first question interviewer will ask you what is your name? You will have to be very polite and speak clear English and little laud. You need to tell your name as per your passport name like my name is Arun Das but in my passport, it’s only Arun so I will have to answer him/her ” Hello Mr. Micheal, My name Arun”. Now you have seen I used a Name Micheal because whenever you go for an interview, the interviewer will introduce himself as well. So it’s a good impression if you use once or twice the interviewer name in your session.

2. What is the purpose of going to the United States of America (USA)?

Ans. Here you will have to define the purpose of going to the USA like if I am going to join Cruise Ship then I know my purpose is work and the Interviewer also know that is my purpose to go in the USA but still he/she need to check the mind set of you.

My answer will be the same ” My purpose is going to the US is a job to join the ship and work with XYZ Cruise Line. Like if I am going to join Norwegian Cruise Line then I will use the name Norwegian Cruise line.

Here do not share emotional answer like my mother is saying that’s why I am going to join, or my friends is working on cruise ship, so I want to join. If you answer like this then your visa will get on hold or reject.

Another Answer – You can say ” I want to join cruise ship for personal and financial growth” That’s all.

For example: C1D visa is for seafarers and his purpose is only job then need to explain same.

B1 Visa is for business purpose in the USA company, so here your purpose is only business.

B2 visa is for tourism, pleasure, or visit to friends and family, so here your purpose should be the same.

3. How did you know about the XYZ (Norwegian) Cruise Line?

Ans. Here I took an example of Norwegian Cruise Line, This question have two answer:

1. If there is an agency that helps you to get this job in your place then tell the agency name to the Interviewer. For example, my agency name is NBCRUISER then my answer will be “ I got to know about Norwegian Cruise Line by NBCRUISER who is hiring for them”

Your answer should be shot and very clear so he/she can understand easily

2. If you got hired directly by the company and there is no agency between you and your company then your answer should be ” I got to know about Norwegian Cruise Line by Internet/ Google/ Facebook/ Instagram”, etc.

4. What is your position with this company?

Ans. Here you need to explain your position with the department like my position is a waiter in the Restaurant department so my answer will be ” Sir/ Ma’am my position is a waiter in the restaurant department”.

5. What is your Job Profile in this Company?

Ans. Here you need to explain your job profile to the interviewer, exactly what will you onboard, what will be your role with this company for example if I am going to join as a waiter then I know what is my profile. so my answer will be ” I am joining as a waiter with this company and my profile will be customer service like, I will serve the food and beverage to the guest, I will check the guest satisfaction about the service as well as food and beverage“, etc.

So here you know about your profile, need to explain everything about you profile with that company.

The Interviewer have your profile and he/she know very well about you and your profile so don’t lie to them, explain what you are.

6. What is your monthly/yearly salary?

Ans. Here you need to tell the exact salary as per your employment latter. For example- On employment latter I have $1000 dollars per month so accordingly, I need to calculate with yearly as well. So my answer will be ” My salary will be $1000 dollars per month”.

7. What is your Joining date?

Ans. Here you need to be a little smart while answering this question. If you have a joining date with you then your answer should be “ If I will get my C1D visa then my company will let me know about my joining date’.

Here you should not mention a time frame in front of the Interviewer because you did not get your visa yet and how come you can plan your joining date. You are still waiting for the approval of your visa. This answer can be a rejection of your visa, So be a little smart.

8. Which Ship you are going to join?

Ans. Most of the company has many ships running around the fleet and when you get your assignment you will get your ship name also. Like if I am assigned with Norwegian Cruise Line then Norwegian have many ships, for example, Norwegian Star, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Sun, etc. and if my assignment is on Norwegian Dawn then my answer should be” I will join the Norwegian Dawn which a one of the Norwegian Ship”.

In your contract latter, everything will be mentioned like Company name, Your name, Your Joining date, your joining ship name, place where you will join the ship, etc.

9. Which port you are going to join the ship?

Ans. Next question they can ask you which port you are going to join the ship? Here you need to tell as per your joining letter. In the joining letter will find all the details.

Port means place of joining where the ship stayed like Miami port, Nassau port, New York port, etc. so if your joining port in New York then your answer should be ‘‘My joining port in New York and I am going to join Norwegian Dawn”.

10. Who is your ship administrator?

Ans. To answer this question you need to read your employment letter. Your administrator name will also mention in your employment letter.

For example: When I join the cruise ship the first time then my administrator’s name is Alexander so I answer “ My ship administrator name is Mr. Alexander“.

11. How is your travel plan?

Ans. To answer this question never frame a date while giving the answer because you went for a visa interview and you did not get yet. If you frame the date then the interviewer will think he/she already mentally prepared to fly but did not get a visa yet which is not possible.

While giving an answer to this question you should be smarter, your answer should be “my travel plan is upon my visa approval”. Means once you will get your visa then your company will make your travel plan.

12. Where will you stay before joining the ship?

Ans. Most of the time when you fly from your country to the United States or any country then there is a time difference between your country and your joining country. So you need to fly before one day to catch your ship.

So your company will arrange your overnight stay with any hotel so you just need to take the name of the hotel like if the company will provide your stay at Hilton then your answer should be I will stay overnight/a day in Hilton Hotel, New York City.

13. How long you will stay in the United States?

Ans. This question can ask you any type of visa interview like J1 visa, B1 Visa,B2 Visa, C1D Visa, etc. So Your answer should be ” I will stay over night or a day in the hotel then I will go to join the ship”.

If you have a C1D visa then you are not allowed to stay more then overnight or a day because C1 visa is especially for Seafarers.

14. Have you completed your STCW?

Ans. STCW is a safety certificate that is compulsory for seafarers and if you don’t have this certificate you are not eligible to apply for a C1D visa interview.

So your answer should be “Yes I do have”. If you say no I don’t have an STCW certificate then it may the Cause of visa rejection. In STCW certificate consist of five different safety certificate so my suggestion is please read all the heading of all certificate because maybe they can ask you one more question regarding this. That is what all safety certificates you have done?

15. Do you have a Seaman Book or CDC?

Ans. CDC ( Continuous Discharge Certificate) is a very important document and if you don’t have CDC or CDC application number then you will not fly for your ship.

So here if you have CDC then you can say “Yes I Do Have CDC or Seaman Book“.or if you don’t have then you can say ” I will apply for CDC once my visa will approve“.

CDC could be anyone like India CDC, Bahama CDC, Belize CDC, etc. If you are from India then Indian CDC is compulsory for every seafarer.

16. What do know about 4th July in USA?

Ans. This question can ask you any type of visa interview. If you are going for a visa interview then you should know about 4th July of the United States of America. The United States celebrates the 4th of July as an Independence day, It is a Federal holiday.

17. Do you know anyone in the United States?

Ans. This question is very tricky and it would be a reason to reject your visa if you will not give proper answers. They ask you do you know anyone in the USA like friends, family, relatives, or anyone.

If you will say yes I know someone from my family or friends then they will say thank you Mr. or Ms. good luck and apply next time. Because if you say yes I know someone then the interviewer will think that maybe he/she will not join ship.

Your answer should be “ No I don’t know anyone in the United States of America”.

18. Why do you want to join Cruise Ship?

Ans. I want to join a cruise ship to enhance my skills and knowledge, I want to learn International exposure which helps to improve my communication. And I want to earn better for my family support. Your answer should be short, crisp, and clear.

My Suggestion: If you are going for a C1D visa interview then you should go with a formal uniform. Your uniform should be comfortable, You should be well-groomed.

The Interviewer can confuse you to ask one question twice or more, but the style of the same question will be different and the form of the question could be changed.

The interviewer just want to make sure if you are going for cruise ship jobs then you will be back in your country.

So you need to make sure the interviewer that if you are going to Join the Cruise Ship then you will be back home for your family once you finished your contract.

It’s my personal experience on board, I used to work with international crew members in my team as well.

Onboard you will find a majority of crew members are between 25-45 years age limit. Few crew members are younger and some of most senior staff like Captain, Staff Captain, Chief Engineer, Hotel Director, F & B Director, etc.

So there is no Maximum Age Limit to work on a Cruise Ship and Minimum Age limit to work on a Cruise ship is 21 years old.

Experience Required for Cruise Ship Jobs

If you want to work on a cruise ship then you should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Your experience should be 4 or 5-star hotels.

If you have previous Cruise Ship Job experience then it is a good opportunity for you. They always preferred previous cruise ship experience crew members but if they don’t have previous cruise ship experience then no need to worry.

Qualifications to work on a cruise Ship

If you want to work on a cruise ship as a photographer then you should be 10th pass, Minimum qualification to work on a cruise ship is 10th pass but if you have a higher education then it’s good for you. If you have higher education like 12th pass or degree or diploma in photography then it a very good opportunity for your profile.

Cruise Ship Contracts Length

Of course if you are thinking about cruise ship jobs then you should know about your contract length, What is the contract length to working on a cruise ship?

Contract length is depend upon company to company and position to position. Most of the the cruise company offer an average contract period is 6-8 month if you are not working on higher level position.

Higher-level positions have a 3-4 month contract like Ship Captain, Staff Captain, Doctor, Hotel Director, F&B Director, etc.

Promotion working as a Photographer

Everyone wants to grow in their life and if you are joining cruise ship as a photographer then you should know about your nest position and how long it will take to reach for the next level.

If you join as a photographer then most probably will not get promotion in your 1st contract, there is a chance to get promotion in your 2nd contract if your performance is good in last contract.

It also depends on your last evaluation. Your boss will look at your previous evaluation before giving a promotion to you.

Duty hours on a cruise ship

Duty hours on a cruise ship is very different from your land job. If you work on a cruise ship then you may work straight but when you working on a cruise ship job then you will have to work on break shift normally.

Most of the crew members work a minimum of 10 hours a day if it is a port day(if ship stays somewhere for shore) But if it is a Sea day( Ship is away from the port and heading toward the destination) then you may need to starch yourself till 12 to 14 hours.

How Much do Cruise Ship Jobs pay for Photographer

Salary of a photographer on cruise ships depends on company to company, the different company has different salary like the big brand( NCL, RCL, MSC, RCCL, and Carnival) have average salary $1200 USD.

Some of the company pay very less for photographer if company is not big, I am not gonna take a name of any company but you can understand.

Duty and Responsibility for Cruise Ship Job as a Photographer

For photographer is not really easy to manage the work like if you are photographer the you will have to work On Board as well Off Board.

If ship is sailing then you need to work onboard like you will have to do photography in different dining area, different bar area, Casino, etc.

If there is any formal night party or any thyme party then photographer need to click pics from there. Some of the Cruise ship captain give welcome party to their guest then you will have to click pics there.

While embarkation you will have to stay in gangway with your team mate to click the picture of guest during boarding on ship.

Off-Board: If ship is standing on port then photographer need to stay next to ship with group of team members to click the photo of lovely guest.

One of the photographer need to wear some attractive costume to attract the kids or their parent so that they can come for photography as much as possible. One of the photographer also need to go for shore side to click the pics if guest are going in a group with shore excursion team.

Apart from this you need to know about printing and processing, You should have a quality to sell the photo and photo product to the guest as well.

Most of the brand like a Swiss watch, Armani, Invicta, diamond, etc. want to do marketing for their brand nearby port. So the sponsored company contact ship admin to distribute their pamphlet to the guest while the guest move for shore on port.

To do this the sponsored company pays a good amount to the ships admin, and you will get paid by ship admin if you do a pamphlet distribution.

What you need to do for earn extra money by doing this. You will have to contact ship admin and need to ask about pamphlet distribution. If they will allow then you will have to collect the pamphlet from admin office and need to distribute to the guest when the ship will dock on port. When guest go out side of the ship at the same point you need to distribute it to the guest.

To work hours twice a day you can earn good money, the company can pay between $50-$100 for every distribution.
